Description
Up for sale is a Mark Kalashen stencil cornet believed to be a Conn/Pan American 1919 Model 30A, SR# 9449. The Mark Kalashen model is given as "The Yankee New York" with a serial # of 5946. Look the photos over all slides work, valves have good compression. The bore measures 0.461" on the 2nd valve slide. The only dent on the horn is one on the tip of the 2nd valve slide. Quite a bit of lacquer remains on this time vault find. The case is a "French" style case and is in good condition. The mouth piece carries no markings. the horn will either tune to A or Bb in 440 pitch and plays in tune better than my Conn Victor 10B.This is a prefect horn for that Dixieland jazz style of playing. This horn is built in the Conn New Invention/Perfected Wonder style.
Look at the photos carefully, what you see is what you get. The case carries a sticker indicating it was sold by the Strobel's Music Shop in Nashville, TN which closed in the mid 1960s, and the Mark Kalashen company was in business from 1897 till 1939.
